  • It can be almost impossible to keep a rural race track completely free of deer. I was officiating at Watkins Glen for the IRL Indy Car race this year (flag marshal) and a practice session was delayed for over a half hour because a deer was running around in the boot.

  • True, Schumacher had an excellent report with the engineers and had great communication with them. But Luca isn't to be discounted, either. There's a reason that Ferrari has stuck with him for so long. He understands how the cars work and knows what the engineers need to know.

  • It will be interesting to see how Kimi gets along with testing for Ferrari. Some folks in the F1 circus assert that he's not very valuable as a tester since he just doesn't provide much insightful communication with engineers.

  • Lewis Hamilton is quite good, but he's also very marketable. McLaren will have two young hot-shots next year, which will be quite good for their image (read: sponsorship money). Plus, the kid's got a future in F1 with McLaren anyway, so why prolong the inevitable?

  • I think Alonso is on a little bit of a bitter streak after a really bad weekend where he had a total BS penalty and a critical DNF.

  • A brilliant driver to be sure. It is a shame that his outstanding career is marred by his questionable sportsmanship. But he has certainly made a lasting mark in the sport and his retirement marks the end of an era for Formula 1 and Ferrari, and the beginning of a new one.

  • Since the Red Bull team is basically little more than an evolution of the Jaguar team he raced for previously, this is more of a homecoming for him. I think he'll be up to speed quickly.
